Apparently, some do check and depending on who the author is, 
the results can be pretty bad.  Just saw this:

At the end of the day, it simply means one will have to be leery of 
using blogged material for professional or academic work just as one 
would not want to pick up and publish conversations overheard in a 
coffeehouse.  There are dangers in uncritical aggregation.

BTW: I'm sending all of those wild kittens in my neighborhood to 
my favorite bloggers.  If you have logs where I appear frequently, 
you might want to watch your mailbox.  Spam goes furry. :-)
