I was under the impression that many RSS readers happily displayed
badly-formed XML as character data without considering well-formedness (ok,
it is a pretty crude heuristic).

 My suggestion to people like him is
> that they should go find other formats to screw up  leave XML alone for
> those of us who want the interoperability gained by a strict definition
> of what is meant by being an XML document.
