Well, since you're then apparently willing to look at ASN.1, how about looking at X.500, LDAP, etc? These provide very broadly used definitions for addresses, phone numbers, etc. that have been in use for a very long time. For stuff defined specifically with XML in mind, the UBL work is well worth a look. bob wyman
