I'm thinking of the following method to provide random access update to SAX parsing. If there's already similar thing developed somewhere (or better perhaps) , I'd be glad to have some urls, you can also tell me that the idea [expletive deleted], I can take it ;) the method assumes: - roundtrip serialization from input to output works - there's some way to generate new unique entity names/refs for document - state tracking is already working and is controllable by switching some flag that indicates we're collecting data (replaced by unique entity ref) or serializing the doc: <viplist> <person> <name>Marlon Random</name> <status>vip</status> </person> <person> etc ... </viplist> the procedure: if wanted person(s) is found, the doc will be serialized to the format: <!DOCTYPE viplist [ <!ENTITY uniqueID SYSTEM "someuniqueIDtoo"> ]> <viplist> <person> &uniqueID; </person> <person> etc ... </viplist> when the update is performed, document is simply parsed again and unique "update" entities are resolved with custom resolveEntityHandler. thanks, Toni Uusitalo "And I wish that I was made of stone So that I would not have to see A beauty impossible to define A beauty impossible to believe" - Nick Cave (Brompton Oratory) - romanticist?
