Oh sure, (rolls eyes) and as long as those that would consider themselves
experts wrap themselves up in these ridiculous arguments it will most certainly
come to pass.

Hmmm, let's see:

NetBEUI    bzzzt!   TCP/IP and even Netware [expletive deleted] less.
MAPI         bzzzz!  SMTP continues to [expletive deleted] less
SMB           bzzzt!  NFS  and Samba put enough fear into them to make CIFS

And even with the mess, DHTML /still/ hasn't taken anything over.

Countless other examples exist where a dominate vendor attempted to foist a
'solution' on the marketplace that didn't meet the marketplace's needs.  Each
time, the marketplace sought other solutions.  Why?  Because the other solutions
were better.  The question is whether the alternative solutions will have the
wherewithall to actaully make /better/ solutions and not just excuses.

Make better solutions, stop whining.
