I'd speculate that for the first few years we would have sold about the same - losing some copies to the online edition, but also benefiting from the boost that DocBook received from having free documentation. Later, as the online edition updated and the paper edition remained the same, I suspect that the availability of the updated online edition has accelerated the normal decline in sales caused by aging of the book. All speculation, backed by the occasional anecdote, I'm afraid.
