Having struggled with a stylesheet for a day and a half,
I re-wrote it in XSLT 1.0, with 3 of Mike Kays extensions.

It was far quicker,
It was comprehensible.
It didn't need the data typing.

The only benefits I see are the incorporation of exslt functionality.
