I recommend you start with JAXB [1]. JAXB allows one to marshal to an
XML document using a method that takes an OutputStream object as the
parameter. For instance, in the following example FileOutputStream is
used to write the XML content into a file with the name itemList2.xml:

File outFile = new File("itemList2.xml"); 
try{ 
    FileOutputStream fout = new FileOutputStream(outFile); 
    il. marshal(fout); 
}finally { 
    fout.close(); 
}
