Yes - though that's good cause for a career change, IMHO.  Perhaps the 
"major players" hope that those of us who do not share their priorities 
will simply get frustrated by their favorite toys and market dominance and 
find something else to work on, leaving them the field.

That will likely happen eventually given the current course, though not as 
quickly as they (or I) might like.
