That makes sense.  I've had listservers send 
me warnings when the local mailbox fills up 
or a network outage over a weekend goes 
unattended.

It makes one wonder about tightly coupled web 
services.

In my experience, network outages lead to bounces, and "n" bounces
lead to list expulsion.  I've had timeouts trying to send email to
textuality.com, e.g.

Distributed systems are when computers you've never heard of can
cause your application to fail.
