That just doesn't make sense to me. If your stuff is working with the syntax only, presumably the customers are happy and will be just as happy in a world where others choose to interoperate with APIs, abstract data models, alternative serializations, or whatever. And if all those folks are misguided, well, history will show that you were right and they were wrong. But how does that hurt you? Sometimes this permathread reminds me of Henry Ford, who supposedly said that he would paint his cars whatever color the customer wants, so long as it is black. If black Model T XML works for your customers, great ... but some people seem to want it in blue, with a little more power that requires higher-octane non-standard fuel, and are willing to pay the price.
