Marshall Rose's Invisible Worlds.  Or MappaMundi, or one of those
ventures of him and Carl Malamud.  I get lost in a twisty maze of their
URL's:  not.invisible.net?  memory.palace.org???

Anyone, his DTD and conversion tools are great, and are published as an
RFC.  It didn't do bitmap layouts, but just about everything else.
