Do we really think people will type &GREEK_SMALL_LETTER_ALPHA; 
rather than  &alpha;  ?   Or

  Martin D&LATIN_SMALL_LETTER_U_WITH_DIAESERIS;erst

rather than Martin D&uuml;erst.
 
Let alone 

&LEFT-POINTING_DOUBLE_ANGLE_QUOTATION_MARK;ecart&RIGHT-POINTING_DOUBLE_ANGLE_QUOTATION_MARK;

instead of   &laquo;ecart&raquo;
