There is no standard way, for several reasons:

1) A receiver often wants to check the document against a standard
schema, not one specified by the sender which may not be equivalent.

2) It makes sense to check a document against different schemas for
different purposes.  In particular, checking XHTML involves three
different schemas, the "main" one and two that check various
exclusions (e.g. no A elements within A elements).

3) It's really a special case of the general XML processing problem,
which should be solved with a general solution.
