Hmm, I somehow got unsubscribed to xml-dev for a couple of weeks there; 
glanced at the list at xml.org and observed that I missed several 
hundred contributions on XQuery & XSchema and so on; I'm not going to 
have time to go back and read them, but by a coincidence I sent a 
looooong note to the xquery feedback drop that addresses some of the 
same issues, some here may find it interesting, apologies in advance if 
it's a rehash of what was said here.
