Your only choices at this point are; 1. have a built-in expectation of what methods you'll see 2. use a pre-specified set of generic methods The problem with #1 is that it makes communication impossible without previous coordination. This is why RPC can be made to work intra- corporation (because systems are under the same administrator[1]), but not so well inter-corporation. #2 works well on the Internet, as the success of application protocols like NNTP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP demonstrates.
