Not if they are in the system core.  If namespace 
support is in the core, then alternatives aren't de jure.

Why change them?  Just start using something else instead.  Leave namespaces
where they are now.  If they work for some, then there is no reason to get
rid of it for those people.  If they don't work for others, then maybe
something along the lines of what I was proposing might be a more suitable
solution.  There is always room for change...
