I'm not trying to enforce one or the other to end the fracas, Mike. The fracas is irrelevant except insofar as it is beginning to rob the TAG of credibility to the W3C membership that is fielding SOAP systems. What I'm saying is precisely this: web services, SOAP, etc., can go right on doing what they are doing and RESTies can go on RESTing. As Fyrstyk said, use each where applicable. Choice, right? There is no "full potential of the Web" until it is retired. When that happens, if we keep to sound principles, XML will be there to help us get the information onto the new system unless one side or the other manages to introduce system architecture dependencies to a system independent metalanguage. len -----Original Message----- From: Mike Champion [mailto:mc@x...] But the CLEARLY WRONG answer, either for 19th century physics or for the 21st century internet, would be to try to enforce one view or the other in the name of stopping a contentious fracas. We obviously can't stop work until we understand the "transcendent thingie" with both SOAP and RPC aspects, and we can't afford to answer the question by fiat. Figuring out when one works better than the other seems like the right approach to me ... while searching for transcendent thingie enlightenment in our spare time.
