FWIW, knowing the size (and maybe type) of various pieces is generally a
nice feature and even though you can do it in many ways, this seems to
be sort of the thing you want to keep simple. In at least some contexts,
simple is related to having the information up front in an easily
accessible manner similar to what DIME attempts to do.
