Are you talking about XML Schema Datatypes, as defined in
   http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-2/
or some other XML datatyping technology, such as DTDs or XML-Data Reduced?

I understand conceptually what you want to do, but I don't think I follow 
your implementation assumptions.
