MSXML 3.0 doesn't know XML Schema exists - it supports XDR (XML-Data
Reduced).
There are rumors that the next MSXML beta will start to support Schema.

I don't fault Microsoft much on this - they wanted to get 3.0 up to a
production release and their schedule didn't mesh with the W3C's.
