The trouble with having a reputation for unflappable calm and rationality is
that when you *do* lose it, and begin to react emotionally, people suspect
you of cold-hearted manipulation.

Simon St. Laurent sent me a private email. By mistake, I forwarded my response
to this mailing list. I apologize for doing so.

To compound matters, I used an expression in that email which was not intended
for public consumption, and which has made for wounded feelings. It was especially
open to misinterpretation by those lacking a perfect grasp of English-language
idiom. It was not my intent to disparage any organization as contemptible.

I also wish to state that I wish Jonathan Borden every success in his attempt
to define an XML property set.

("Eating crow", BTW, means "publicly humbling oneself, particularly by
accepting what one has fought against".)
