I'd like to test the existance of tags in an XML doc when processing it
with XSLT. Here is some conventional code for what I'm trying to
accomplish:

$tagname = "<lastname>";
if($tagname)
{
   ... process the tag's contents here ...
}
else
{
   ...more processing here ...
}


Any assistance is much appreciated.
