If you follow the Microsoft Bible, you would create a COM+ component, where it would take these details for you. What's missing in the released documentation is the Common Language Runtime stuff that Microsoft keeps hinting. I am not sure what advantages it has over Visual Basic 7 except the C style syntax which may be more clean. It makes more sense to compare it with VB7 but I do agree with Eric, from a political sense it puts more pressure on Sun to loosen control on Java.
