During the earlier discussion on the language of W3C Specifications, I was 
unable to refer to the WD of the W3C XML Query Data Model, which has now 
been published at:

http://www.w3.org/TR/query-datamodel/

I think that this document illustrates how formal notation can increase 
precision and clarity while reducing the complexity of a spec.
