IE4/5 has the concept of behaviors that you could attach any piece of HTML+script to a tag/Element. It was a good feature which did not get too popular, as most developers said they wanted HTML4+CSS1+DOM done right. http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/behaviors/overview.asp With IE5.5 support for the contenteditable Attribute, which lets you make a lot of HTML elements editable, it should be possible to integrate behaviors with this to create a good HTML/XML editor. http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/reference/properties/c ontenteditable.asp (The work done with the contenteditable Attribute is a real innovation, BTW) While this always seemed technical feasible to me, no one wanted to touch this kind of project. There were on and off conversations about creating a good editor on XML-Dev and other places, but they always went nowhere. So, it's nice to see the Zope/Mozilla integration project making some good progress in this direction.
