You may be able to prevent that by using the alternative form "%3a".

(Is ":" allowed in the <path> part, anyway?  AIUI, it's a reserved
character not being used for its reserved purpose, and therefore must
be escaped.  The pipe symbol being one (non-standard) way of escaping
it).
