I think what bothers me about all this is the apparent imprimatur
approval of OASIS for the work. Of course anyone can do what they
want, but I think a standards-based group like OASIS has a different
duty. Which was I was curious to see the detailed technical report
showing why the long-standing `standard' DTD for text encoding, the
TEI, was not being used for the project. I am sorry, but the answers
have been interesting, but pretty much anecdotal and sometimes
simplistic. 

If you want to tell me that a) I have completely misremembered, and
OASIS has nothing to do with this, or b) its none of my business,
thats OK too.....
