You need more, agreed.

You also need less. In the context of an RPC mechanism all of
the HTTP features you mentioned apart from chunking look pretty 
problematic. Do we really want RPC calls redirected (perhaps by 
a malicious proxy), requests and responses cached (perhaps by 
one of the many broken/legacy HTTP1.0- proxies out there) or
tunnelled through our firewall admins security policies?
