Yes, but it's generally brittle -- about the same level of difficulty
as doing object-oriented programming in C or BASIC (or, to remove the
sexist part of an 18th-century quip, it's like a dog standing on its
hind legs: it's not done well, but it's quite astounding that it's
done at all).  You've got to use lots of parameter-entity trickery if
you want to be able to extend the content models of what you're
inheriting.
