What you have in mind is pretty much the level of the event based API. To my understanding the XML parser API is meant to tell the parser how to behave (i.e. validate/non-validate, set optional error reporting..) and to set things like the object dealing with the Esis stream, set the input stream etc. -- Best regards, Norbert H.
